Thomas Draving was born in Pennsylvania. I studied mechanical design at Spring Garden College in Philadelphia. I was a singer and songwriter in my 20's. While in his 30's I attended the Stone Harbor School of Art in New Jersey. After moving to Florida in 1983, I joined the Gold Coast Watercolor Society and the Florida Watercolor Society, where I continued to study as a watercolor artist.
My watercolor paintings are full of color and design. I enjoy the beaches, seashores, boatyards, the local wildlife, and art landscapes. The colors of the oceans, the surrounding array of plants and flowers, and the architecture of the Florida beaches have inspired my work as an artist. My watercolor designs vary in composition and are very colorful. All of the imaginative concept paintings are chosen, designed, and painted by me.
My vision is perhaps a creative sight of the way things appear to people. I have seen many places in my travels. I have traveled throughout the United States, visiting many of the national parks. I have seen the East Coast from Massachusetts to The Florida Keys and West Coast from San Diego to San Francisco. I have been out of the country a few times, and for some reason, I feel most comfortable living in these little beach towns along the East Coast. I understand what people see in the cool sea air hitting your face with warm sand, the flapping of a sail on a hot summer beach day, a flock of seagulls laughing at the wind as the wind lifts them further into the sky, and the feeling you get when a large cruise ship blasts its horn. You are on the way to a cool, fun tropical island awaiting your hard-earned money for an icy island drink decorated with fresh fruit. People wait all year and some for 10 years to lull around South Florida beaches in their swimsuits & float out onto a warm blue sea relaxing in the Eastern or Western Caribbean. A memory of where they were or what they were doing to keep the thought of the good time they had is welcome to most people and a constant reminder that life is not all deadlines and hard work. There are times we deserve to get away, enjoy our beautiful world, the expansiveness of where we reside, and the wonder of human-made architectural structures.
